A call sign is a unique identifier used in wireless communications. In OpenStreetMap you can map call signs that are assigned to radio stations, clubs, repeaters and (aero)nautical beacons. (Call signs are also issued to vehicles, ships, aircraft and licensed radio operators, but of course we can't map those because they are not stationary.)

Examples

  • way Anthorn Radio Station has =GQD, the G prefix means England
  • way Amateur radio club OSB Brugge has =ON6BR, the ON prefix means Belgium
  • node Channel 64 in Cincinnati has =WSTR-TV; in the U.S., the suffix "TV" distinguishes a full-power television station from a radio or low-power television station by the same callsign
