Use this tag with amenity=school to describe whether a school teaches only males, only females, or both.

The most common values are:

  • =mixed for schools where boys and girls are admitted and are educated together
  • =female for girls-only schools
  • =male for boys-only schools

One can also use =separated for schools where boys and girls are admitted, but are educated (mostly) separate, e.g. in different classrooms or even buildings, or during different times but in the same school. This is however quite exceptional and hsa never been added to OSM as of yet.
