Spanish Empire

The Spanish Empire started in 1492 with the voyages of Columbus. It lost most of it's territories in 1898 during the Spanish-American War. The Spanish Empire was dissolved with the loss of Spanish Sahara in 1976.


Spanish admin levels are weird. I will map viceroyalties, captaincy generals and colonies as admin_level=2 even though they overlap sometimes. Because for example in the Viceroyalty of New Spain you had a few kingdoms like Nueva Galicia and Reino de Mexico and then other places were provinces which I'll tag admin_level=4 and then you had the regional commander known as the viceroy that was in charge over them all.
