For persistent storage of Kubernetes volumes in AWS, it is typical to use EBS volumes (via a CSI driver). The problem is that infrequently accessed EBS volumes are expensive to retain compared to other storage formats (e.g., EBS costs twice as much as EBS snapshots do, and normal EBS also charges for unused provisioned capacity). Can Kubernetes storage drivers be configured to automatically recreate EBS volumes from corresponding snapshots, to transparently handle cases when the storage volume associated with a PV has been removed from EBS?
