HPE states that from iLO 4 version 2.76 user can view and modify system thermal configuration settings using iLO interfaces. Finally! This is great feature for example those who have HPE incompatible drives. More details about this issue can be read from here

However, they haven't documented feature and I can't figure out how settings should be modified. Any tips where to look?

I was unable to find any official dynamic fan control mechanism for iLO4 (for HPE SL250s Gen8 servers, in particular).

  • I found some evidence that this should be possible for iLO5 hardware.
  • I looked through the HP python-ilorest-library API (both LegacyRestClient and RedfishClient) thoughtfully, and I only found a way to view thermal sensor data and fan speeds, but no way to modify them. It
  • It is possible to manually boot to the server BIOS and select some "HP Power Profile", which affects the fan speeds. But I found no way to "dynamically change" that preset.
  • There's a great unofficial iLO4 firmware mod, that unlocks a great full-featured fan control interface.
