I'm struggling to get an access point working on a Raspberry Pi with two wireless interfaces (although I don't think the issue is specific to a Pi) using NetworkManager. This is on Debain 12 (bookworm).
Wifi interface wlan1 is a usb wifi card that is connected to a wireless router. The wifi interface wlan0 is the Raspberry Pi's internal wifi card that will be used as the access point.
To make things simple, I created an access point by selecting the wireless icon on the Desktop and selecting "Advanced Options → Create Wireless Hotspot", selecting the "Broadcom B3438 combo and Bluetooth low energy" interface (wlan0) and creating the access point with "WPA & WPA2 Personal" security. This creates the access point, and I can then join it with my laptop, but then I can't access the internet.
When I'm connected to the access point, although I can't access the internet, I can ssh into the raspberry pi using it's ip address on the wireless router. When connected to the access point the DNS server is 8.8.8.8, but if I try and ping 8.8.8.8, I get a request timeout.
I thought the issue might be with the gateway for the access point, but when I tried to set it with nmcli connection modify testap ipv4.gateway 192.168.55.1, but got Error: Failed to modify connection 'testap': ipv4.gateway: gateway cannot be set if there are no addresses configured.
