I have a couple of diskless HP blades running ESXi on them. We want to move to a different hypervisor and wanted to install Proxmox VE on them which runs on Debian 12.
Since there are no drives in these blade servers, I was looking for a way to install Debian 12 on an FCoE LUN and then boot from it, but I couldn't find any information about it.
Red Hat base systems (Alma Linux/Rocky Linux) make all of these things easier, as during OS installation there is an option to install the system to a LUN and boot from it (already tested), but Proxmox VE does not work on these systems. I consider Proxmox VE to be quite mature and quite initial in terms of setup and management compared to other open source solutions. I've been searching the internet for the last few days for information on installing and booting Debian with FCoE LUN, but I haven't found anything :(
I tested installing Debian on an FCoE LUN using a Live CD and after doing the necessary FCoE configuration I think I managed to install the system on the LUN, but I probably missed some additional configurations because the system failed to boot from the LUN.
Does anyone have experience installing and running Debian with FCo LIN and can share some knowledge on the subject ?
