This might have begun at the same time as upgrading Ubuntu 20.04 to 22.04, that's kernel 5.4.0 to 5.15.0. I've been running djbdns on various servers since about 2002, in this case on a Ubuntu virtualbox VM. It is built from djb's 1.05 .tar.gz with nothing but the infamous errno.h change.

There is a solution at: the Qmail Mailing List archive
I used "lenin at hasiru"'s djbdnslimit.patch

Following his instructions:

tar zxvf djbdns-1.05.tar.gz
wget http://hasiru.net/djbdnslimit.patch
patch -p0 <djbdnslimit.patch
cd djbdns-1.05
echo gcc -O2 -include /usr/include/errno.h > conf-cc

I then had to make a change to error.h:

old: extern int errno;
new: #include <errno.h>

Finally:

make setup check

Also had to change my /service/tinydns/run file to have softlimit -d600000

tinydns was consistently stopped answering quries (logging [...] 0000 / 0000 .) after answering 6-20 queries. Now it is stable.
